Cong and "The Quiet Man"

"The Quiet Man" is a movie from 1952 directed by John Ford, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. It was filmed in and around Cong throughout County Mayo. And in Cong, at least, "The Quiet Man" seems to be an integral part of their town identity now. In fact, the only reason we drove through Cong was so I could show Jon the stone bridge below. But what we ended up finding was the Abbey, Ashford Castle, and one of the most captivating villages of our entire trip. We even made friends with the locals at our B & B, but that story is best told over a pint of Guiness at O'Reilly's!
