Final Day in Ireland

Jon in front of the Taoiseach's Office (the Irish White House). We had hoped to squeeze in one last thing prior to our departure from Ireland (mere hours from when this photo was taken): to see the Irish Oval Office. Along with a handful of Irish tourists, we got to tour Bertie Ahern's office and the EU state rooms. Bertie's office is in a building directly adjacent this one, to the right of Jon. And when Taoiseach (pronounced TEE-shuck) Ahern wants to get in his car, he simply takes an elevator from his office to his car waiting below in what the Irish Secret Service have dubbed the Bat Cave. This visit came two weeks prior to the Irish elections and even our tour guides, two twenty-something Trinity College grads, were uncertain as to whom would be victorious. Ultimately, Ireland narrowly re-elected Bertie Ahern of Fianna Fail over Enda Kenny of Fine Gael.
